Un probl\u00e8me inverse est une situation dans laquelle on tente de d\u00e9terminer les causes d&rsquo;un ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne \u00e0 partir des observations de ses effets. Par exemple, en sismologie, la localisation de l&rsquo;origine d&rsquo;un tremblement de terre \u00e0 partir de mesures faites par plusieurs stations sismiques r\u00e9parties sur la surface du globe terrestre est un probl\u00e8me inverse. A partir des mesures obtenues sur le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne r\u00e9el, la d\u00e9marche va consister \u00e0 approximer au mieux les param\u00e8tres d\u2019un mod\u00e8le qui permettent d\u2019expliquer ces mesures. Des exemples seront fournis dans diff\u00e9rentes disciplines en g\u00e9osciences.
